Preamble

 

The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Student Chapter at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is a student-based organization committed to furthering education in engineering and engineering technology. The mission shall be accomplished by providing services to prepare members for a career in academia, educate undergraduate students about graduate education, and to encourage involvement of underrepresented minority groups in academia and graduate school.

 

Article I Name

 

Section 1: The official name of the organization is:

Article IIPurpose

 

The general mission of the ASEE UTEP Student Chapter is to increase the interest of engineering graduate students in careers in engineering education, to assist and encourage women and underrepresented minorities to study and seek careers in the fields of engineering and engineering technology, and to encourage engineering undergraduate students to continue their studies at the graduate level.

 

Article III – Membership

 

Section 1: Membership and participation is free from discrimination based on religion, ethnic group, age, national origin, sex, sexual preference, physical or mental disability, or medical condition.

 

Section 2: Membership is open to graduate students in any discipline, faculty and staff at the University of Texas at El Paso only; there will be no grade point average (GPA) requirements.

 

Article IV Executive Board

 

Section 1: The Executive Board will be composed of the following positions: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations Chair, Recruitment Chair, and Historian.

 

Section 2: The Executive Board will be elected according to the procedures stated in the Bylaws.

 

Section 3: The term of office is one year from the date of appointment.

 

Section 4: Executive Board officers must be graduate students that are a registered member of the ASEE UTEP Student Chapter, and that carry a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00/4.00.

 

Article VAdvisors

 

Section 1: The ASEE UTEP Student Chapter may have as many Faculty Advisors as deemed necessary by the Executive Board. As a minimum, there will be two: one being a faculty member of the College of Engineering, and one being a faculty member of the College of Education.

 

Section 2: Advisors will be selected by majority vote of the Executive Board.

 

Section 3: Advisors will have a term of office of one year, with the option of being re-elected by the Executive Board every year, for an unlimited number of times.

 

Article VISociety Year

 

The fiscal year for the student chapter will run parallel to the academic year at UTEP, from August to May.

 

Article VIIMeetings

 

Section 1: General meetings will be held once every month.

 

Section 2: Special general meetings may be held upon approval of the majority of the Executive Board.

 

Section 3: Executive Board meetings will be held every two weeks as a minimum.

 

Article VIII Amendments

 

Section 1: All proposed amendments must be submitted in writing to a member of the Executive Board.

 

Section 2: Amendments will be made according to the procedures specified in the bylaws.

 

Section 3: Under any circumstances, an amendment may never modify the purpose of the organization.
